We believe in releasing wines only when they are ready to drink.
As a result, we may release vintages out of order, depending on the character of the wine.
2011 Napa Valley Pinot Noir
This was our first vintage of Houndstooth! We didn’t really know what we were doing yet, so leaned heavily on our very talented friends. The fruit for this wine hails from the Foss Valley area on Atlas Peak, which is a cooler pocket on an otherwise warm mountain. It was fermented in an open-top Rousseau oak tank and aged for 16 months in neutral French oak barrels. The wine is soft and gentle, with a core of red cherries ringed by earthy notes of mushroom, mulch, and incense. 50 cases produced.
2014 Rorick Heritage Vineyard Calaveras County Barbera
2014 marks our first vintage making Barbera and we are so in love with this wine. Unlike serious Pinot, Barbera just wants to have fun! We weren’t quite sure how to make it, so we treated it like Pinot Noir. Which is to say, we destemmed 75% of it, trod the remaining clusters, and handled the whole thing very gently. It was fermented in an open top bin and aged for 20 months in neutral French oak barrels. The wine possesses an exuberant nose of sappy red berries, violets, and brown spices. The palate features a juicy mouthful of red berres run through by a vibrant, thrilling acidity. The perfect pizza wine. 50 cases produced.
